What You Need to Know About the HCFC Phaseout

Wednesday, November 6th, 2019

EPA-logoThe United States has committed to reducing ozone-depleting substances to help protect the environment. As part of this commitment, chemical refrigerants made from hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are set to be completely phased-out from use by January 1, 2020—only a few months away.

What does this mean for you? If you have an older air conditioning system that uses R-22 refrigerant, a.k.a. HCFC-22, it means plenty. For many decades, R-22 was the most common refrigerant blend used in air conditioning equipment. Newer AC models built since the start of the phaseout use an ozone-safe refrigerant blend call R-410A. You can check which type your air conditioning system uses by looking on the metal plate on the back of the condenser cabinet. It will have either R-22 or R-410A clearly marked.

If you have an R-410A air conditioner, then you’re in good shape for the future. If you have an R-22 air conditioner, there’s more you need to know.

AC Maintenance Is Like a Glass of Water in the Morning

Monday, April 8th, 2019

When it comes to air conditioning maintenance, it’s not so different. That tune-up is sort of like a big glass of water to set your AC right for the rest of the summer. Instead of being a daily occurrence, a tune-up is something you only need once a year, but it has a similar effect. Allow us to explain:

3 Highly Effective Uses for a Ductless HVAC System

Monday, August 13th, 2018

ductless-split-system-in-bedroomDuctless mini-split systems are wonders of the HVAC industry. They can be used for both heating and cooling, they’re efficient from month to month, and they can be controlled individually. The higher upfront costs of these units are easily justified by the monthly money savings and convenience of use.

A lesser-known benefit of these systems, however, is that they can be used in some very particular situations where a normal central AC system just won’t cut it. In this post, we’ll try to inspire you with a few ideas.
